Commemoration of the Reichs Pogrom Night in Potsdam: Remembering and Showing Responsibility

Remembering Together, Taking Responsibility

On Monday, November 9, 2026, Potsdam invites you to a public commemoration event on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of the Reichs Pogrom Night. In the Synagogue Center Potsdam, memory, dignity, and shared responsibility for an open society are the focus.

Remembrance at the Synagogue Center Potsdam

The event begins at 5:00 PM at Schloßstraße 8. Mayor Noosha Aubel will give a speech. Several graphic stories about Potsdam's stumbling stones, created by Sigrid Meesmann, will make local life stories visible and give the memory a personal perspective.

Texts, Music, and Local Remembrance Culture

Students from the Catholic Mary School will read accompanying texts. The musical design will be provided by violinists Alina Bauer and Vivien Zeller. Thus, the event experience connects historical education, biographical remembrance, and a dignified atmosphere.

Continuation at the Former Synagogue Site

At 6:00 PM, the commemoration will continue at the location of the former synagogue at Platz der Einheit 1. Wreaths and flowers will be laid there. The event is jointly organized by the Jewish Community Potsdam, the Catholic Parish of All Saints, the Protestant Church District Potsdam, the Working Group of Christian Churches Potsdam, GRANDMAS AGAINST THE RIGHT Potsdam, and the state capital Potsdam.

An Evening for Remembrance and Solidarity

The commemorative event focuses on the destruction of synagogues and Jewish places of worship, the devastation of Jewish cemeteries, and the persecution of Jewish people in Nazi Germany. The audience can expect a focused, musically accompanied remembrance with a strong reference to Potsdam's city history. Those who wish to make a statement against forgetting and antisemitism will experience this evening best on-site.
