Celestial Events 2026: Potsdam Looks to the Stars

The new astronomical year begins with a special evening at the Urania Planetarium Potsdam. At the Cosmic Wednesday on January 13, 2027, Simon Plate, director of the URANIA Planetarium, will present selected celestial events of 2026 and take the audience on a journey through visible planetary constellations, eclipses, and fascinating space missions.

Mars, Solar Eclipses, and Great Moments in the Sky

The focus is on the red planet Mars, which is particularly visible at the beginning of the year. In addition, visitors will be treated to astronomical highlights such as a partial solar eclipse that can be observed in the German-speaking region. Over southern Spain and North Africa, this event will even become one of the longest total solar eclipses of the century.

Between Starry Skies and Space Travel

The event combines classic sky observation with current themes in space travel. A special focus is on the Artemis 3 mission, marking another step on the journey back to the Moon. Clear explanations, impressive planetarium scenes, and the characteristic event atmosphere under the dome make the evening an experience for adults and teenagers.

Knowledge, Wonder, and Audience Mood

The organization of the evening is taken over by the Urania Planetarium Potsdam as an established institution for astronomical education and public events. Expertise, visual presentations, and a calm, focused audience atmosphere combine to create a successful outreach for star enthusiasts, families with teenagers, and anyone keen to understand the universe better.
