The Green Band: A Walking Tour of Germany Through History and Nature
On February 10, 2027, the Urania Association Potsdam invites you to an impressive multivision show with travel reporter and photographer Roland Marske. The Green Band - Border Walk connects political history, nature photography, and personal travel experience into an intense artistic experience on a large screen.
Where History Continues to Live in the Landscape
For more than 1,393 kilometers, the former inner-German border ran through Germany. Barbed wire, minefields, watchtowers, and searchlights shaped this border area for four decades. Today, the former death strip has become the Green Band: a unique natural space and Germany's largest nature reserve. The multivision show makes visible how closely memory culture and landscape are connected.
Photography Between the Kolonnenweg and the Baltic Sea
Roland Marske follows the former border course on foot, with a backpack, tent, and camera. His journey takes him through Vogtland, the Ore Mountains, the Rhön, and the Harz, along the Saale, Werra, and Elbe rivers, through the Altmark and the Lüneburg Heath to the Baltic Sea. Photographic compositions of mountains, river valleys, castles, monasteries, and medieval half-timbered towns create an atmospheric exploration of the work where nature and contemporary history meet.
An Aesthetic Experience with a Personal Perspective
The projections will be presented on a screen of up to 60 square meters and accompanied by suitable music and personal comments. Light, color, spatial impact, and the rhythmic sequence of images allow the landscapes to become immediately tangible. Marske tells, with historical knowledge, photographic precision, and fine humor, about the people, places, and traces he encounters on his border walk.
Cultural Education Through Visual Storytelling
The event offers an understandable access to the German division, memory culture, and the ecological significance of the Green Band. It combines documentary photography, travel journalism, and political education. This creates an exhibition situation without classic museum objects, but with the focused atmosphere of an audiovisual installation: images become spaces of remembrance, landscapes become historical evidence.
Conclusion: Experience History and Nature Live
The Green Band - Border Walk promises a moving evening between nature experience, art photography, and German contemporary history. Those who want to discover landscapes as memory storage and experience the aesthetic power of large-format projections will find an extraordinary cultural experience at the Urania Association Potsdam. Secure your participation and accompany Roland Marske on this special walking tour of Germany.
