Social Pediatric Center Potsdam (SPZ) | Registration & Directions
The Social Pediatric Center Potsdam at Horstweg 8a is a medically led outpatient facility where various specialties work together to comprehensively support children and adolescents up to the age of 18. This interdisciplinary approach makes the SPZ valuable for many families: it is not just about a single diagnosis, but about developmental trajectories, everyday burdens, questions regarding school, daycare, and family, as well as the search for sustainable, practical support. Those looking for social pediatrics Potsdam, SPZ Potsdam, developmental diagnostics, or a specialized contact point for chronic neurological diseases will find a clearly structured care location with specialist medical leadership, coordinated processes, and a broad therapeutic perspective. The center supports parents and other caregivers in better understanding their child's development, planning steps, and not feeling alone in a challenging situation. ([klinikumwb.de](https://www.klinikumwb.de/neuro-und-sozialpaediatrie-potsdam/sozialpaediatrisches-zentrum))
Registration, Referral Slip, and Telephone Consultation Hours at SPZ Potsdam
For many families, the first contact with SPZ Potsdam is the most important step, as it guides further care in an orderly manner. The official registration is intentionally clearly structured: the SPZ registration form must be filled out, the pediatrician should stamp it, and then the form is sent to the center. Additionally, a referral slip is required; the center explicitly points out that a valid referral slip from the referring specialist in pediatric and adolescent medicine or general medicine should be brought along for the first presentation. The telephone consultation hours for registration are weekdays between 9:00 and 12:30, providing parents with a well-planned time for inquiries. This is particularly helpful for complex questions, as documents, previous findings, and queries can be sorted out before the appointment. The registration form asks the SPZ about pregnancy, birth, previous illnesses, development, prior treatments, support measures, and family circumstances. This shows how seriously the facility takes the child's history and how carefully the initial presentation is prepared. For search queries like spz potsdam registration, spz potsdam registration form, or spz potsdam referral slip, this is a central orientation, as the official process is transparent, medically sensible, and family-friendly. ([klinikumwb.de](https://www.klinikumwb.de/neuro-und-sozialpaediatrie-potsdam/sozialpaediatrisches-zentrum))
The content of the registration is also not aimed at quick standard cases, but at children for whom an interdisciplinary classification is truly meaningful. The registration form documents, for example, abnormalities in language, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, concentration, perception, behavior, emotion, sleep, pain, and social interaction. Additionally, epilepsy, hearing and vision problems, developmental delays, motor restlessness, difficulties in calculation, writing, and reading, as well as previous support measures are inquired about. This is no coincidence, but part of a social pediatric approach that takes the reality of children's lives seriously. If the question is more about isolated learning problems or isolated reading-writing or calculation difficulties, the SPZ refers to other appropriate specialist offices such as school psychology or special education, as these cases can often be addressed more accurately there. For parents, this means: The center does not accept children indiscriminately, but carefully examines the questions and focuses on cases where the multiprofessional structure of the SPZ truly creates added value. The note that a translator should be brought along in case of insufficient German language skills also shows the pragmatic and family-oriented character of the facility. ([evb-gesundheit.de](https://www.evb-gesundheit.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Einrichtungen/Klinikum_Westbrandenburg/Neuro-und_Sozialpaediatrie_Potsdam/SPZ-Anmeldebogen.pdf))
Which Children and Adolescents are Treated at SPZ Potsdam
The treatment spectrum of SPZ Potsdam is broad but clearly aimed at children and adolescents with more complex developmental and health issues. This includes abnormalities in language, motor skills, cognition, or intelligence, as well as behavioral and emotional disturbances. On the medical side, conditions such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular diseases, multiple disabilities, continued care after skull and brain injuries, chronic headaches, and spina bifida are mentioned. Additionally, there are developmental risks after premature birth or perinatal complications, disorders of language, speaking, voice, swallowing, and food intake, as well as genetically caused developmental disorders. Psychological illnesses and behavioral disturbances, autism, ADHD, and executive function disorders are also part of the spectrum. Therefore, those searching for social pediatrics Potsdam, autism Potsdam children, ADHD Potsdam children, or premature birth follow-up Potsdam will encounter exactly the topics for which this center was created. The official description makes it clear that care is not isolated but always occurs in interaction with various professions so that medical, therapeutic, and social aspects can be considered together. ([klinikumwb.de](https://www.klinikumwb.de/neuro-und-sozialpaediatrie-potsdam/sozialpaediatrisches-zentrum))
The easy language offerings of the SPZ particularly illustrate this approach. It is explained that the center examines children up to 18 years old and that parents often have questions such as: Why is my child not walking yet? Why does my child not speak correctly? Why can’t my child calculate or write? Is my child disabled? Why is there so often trouble? Why does my child always have headaches? Behind these questions lies no remote diagnosis but the desire to make abnormalities understandable and to help in a practical way. The SPZ responds not only with diagnostics but also with medications, aids, counseling, family support, and assistance with applications. This is precisely the strength of the facility: it views development not as a rigid schema but as an individual task that requires medical expertise, therapeutic support, and social orientation. This is particularly valuable for families with premature infants, children with neurological diseases, or children with multiple parallel burdens, where a single specialty is not sufficient. For search intentions like social pediatric center Brandenburg or social pediatrics Potsdam, it is therefore crucial that the center in Potsdam is not just a pure consultation office but a coordinating care unit with multiprofessional depth. ([klinikumwb.de](https://www.klinikumwb.de/neuro-und-sozialpaediatrie-potsdam/sozialpaediatrisches-zentrum))
Directions, Parking, and Accessible Rooms at Horstweg 8a
The new location of SPZ Potsdam is at Horstweg 8a, 14482 Potsdam, and was explicitly planned with a focus on family-friendliness and accessibility. For driving directions, the center mentions parking spaces on Lotte-Laserstein-Straße directly behind the SPZ building. This is particularly important for parents with younger children, siblings, aids, or limited mobility, as short distances and clear orientation significantly ease the visit. The location is also well accessible by public transport: Bus line 693 stops at the Moosgarten stop with about 50 meters of walking distance, and lines 601, 602, and 690 stop at Horstweg/Großbeerenstraße with about 200 meters of walking distance. Thus, the center is not only locally known but also practically reachable for families from the wider Potsdam area. Those searching for spz potsdam directions or spz potsdam parking receive a concrete answer instead of general hints. The location of the building and the wayfinding are part of the modern site concept that becomes visible in the new building. ([klinikumwb.de](https://www.klinikumwb.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Einrichtungen/Klinikum_Westbrandenburg/Neuro-und_Sozialpaediatrie_Potsdam/Geschwisterzeit-Angbote-fuer-Geschwister-chronisch-kranker-Kinder.pdf))
Especially positive is that the new location has been designed not only functionally but also atmospherically. The center describes the rooms as modern, accessible, and bright. In addition, there are spacious waiting areas and newly designed diagnostic and therapy rooms that, according to the official statement, create ideal conditions for comprehensive, individual care. For children with disabilities, a specialist advisor for accessibility was involved in the planning, which shows that inclusion is not just claimed but concretely implemented. In everyday life, this means, among other things, better accessibility, a less stimulating environment, and more opportunities for sensitive diagnostic and therapeutic processes. Particularly interesting for parents is that in the new rooms, gait analyses, video and interaction observations, as well as helper conferences and video consultations are possible. This is a clear indication that the SPZ is not intended as a classic single practice but as a modern coordination place for differentiated developmental diagnostics. For search queries like social pediatric center potsdam photos, it is also noteworthy that the official reports connect the rooms with a photo exhibition and a warm, inspiring atmosphere. This makes the location not only medically but also humanly tangible. ([evb-gesundheit.de](https://www.evb-gesundheit.de/sozialpaediatrisches-zentrum-potsdam-zieht-in-neue-raeumlichkeiten-um))
History, Team, and Certifications of SPZ Potsdam
SPZ Potsdam has a long development history that explains its current role in regional care. According to the official anniversary statement, the center was founded in 1994 as a municipal enterprise of the city of Potsdam and integrated into the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic as an outpatient department in 1995. It originally started with a small team at the former Potsdam Children's Clinic In der Aue. Today, it has become a large and renowned neuro- and social pediatric center that cares for more than 2500 children and adolescents annually and employs over 50 staff members from twelve professional groups. These numbers are important because they show that the center is not a small niche but a supporting pillar of pediatric and adolescent medical care in Potsdam and the region. The anniversary statement also names Dr. med. Mona Dreesmann as the head of SPZ Potsdam and chief physician of the Clinic for Neuro- and Social Pediatrics. For parents seeking continuity, experience, and professional breadth, these are strong signals. Therefore, those looking for Social Pediatric Center Potsdam reviews, team, or background will find here a facility with long practice, clear leadership, and a pronounced interdisciplinary structure. ([evb-gesundheit.de](https://www.evb-gesundheit.de/30-jahre-spz-1))
In addition, several certifications underpin the quality claim of the facility. The SPZ is recognized as pioneering for the development of children by the German Society for Social Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, as well as being a certified epilepsy center, certified epilepsy outpatient clinic, and certified neuromuscular center. This combination is relevant for many families because it shows that the SPZ not only addresses general developmental issues but also covers specific neurological focuses with high professional depth. The anniversary statement emphasizes that the center has always placed the well-being of the child and the support of the family at the center of its work. The move to the new location on Horstweg, the integration of pediatric audiology, and the personnel expansion logically fit into this development. Especially in cases of chronic neurological diseases, epilepsy, neuromuscular problems, or complex developmental disorders, a center with certified structures, many professional groups, and close collaboration within the facility is a real advantage. The emphasized regional significance also indicates that SPZ Potsdam is an important contact point not only for the city but also for the surrounding area. ([evb-gesundheit.de](https://www.evb-gesundheit.de/30-jahre-spz-1))
Family Offers, Sibling Time, and Practical Help in Everyday Life
SPZ Potsdam does not only think of the affected child but also of the family system. This is particularly visible in the sibling time offer, which is aimed at siblings of chronically ill children. Officially, children between 6 and 12 years are addressed; if necessary, there is a youth group from 13 years. The idea behind it is clear: sibling children get their own space for conversations, exchange, shared experiences, and the relief of being in the spotlight themselves for once. The website describes the offer as preventive, and the materials emphasize that it is about contact, feelings, stress management, social and emotional skills, and psychoeducation. That registrations are accepted at SPZ Potsdam again shows how closely the family offers are intertwined with medical care. For parents searching for social pediatric center potsdam reviews or photos, this perspective on family work is important because the facility apparently not only provides diagnostics but also creates accompanying, low-threshold offers. ([evb-gesundheit.de](https://www.evb-gesundheit.de/geschwisterzeit-im-spz-1))
There is also practical support for families with limited German language skills or special information needs. The registration form explicitly points out that a translator should be brought along in case of insufficient German language skills. Additionally, the SPZ documents are available in several languages, including English, French, Arabic, Persian, Polish, and Vietnamese, and there is easy language with symbols. This is an important quality aspect for a center with a broad catchment area, as information becomes more understandable and accessible. Furthermore, the SPZ refers to materials for private health insurances and to additional offers such as music therapy. Together, this creates a picture of a facility that not only makes diagnoses but also provides orientation, removes barriers, and works closely with families. This is precisely what makes SPZ Potsdam a search query with high information needs: those who land here are usually not looking for an event location but a professionally strong, empathetic, and well-organized medical center for children and adolescents. With its location at Horstweg, clear registration, barrier-free architecture, long experience, and family-oriented offers, the SPZ meets these expectations precisely.
We visited for the first time today and were very impressed. The Potsdam Social Pediatric Center (SPZ Potsdam) impresses with its exceptionally high level of expertise. From the very beginning, we felt very well cared for. The staff are extremely competent and very sensitive to the individual needs of each child. The respectful and appreciative approach is particularly noteworthy, creating a trusting atmosphere and providing the child with a sense of security. The entire staff is remarkably friendly and helpful. You can tell that they work with a great deal of experience, patience, and genuine enthusiasm for their profession. We are very grateful for the support and can wholeheartedly recommend the Potsdam SPZ. The appointment was punctual, and everything was perfectly planned. Thank you so much!

My baby is being cared for here due to premature birth and low birth weight. We've already had a neurology appointment and a physiotherapy session. They will continue to assess my little one at further appointments. I'm very satisfied.

Worst medical facility I know. Examples (selection): The doctor arrives unprepared for the appointment (long reading of the file in the patient's presence, yet we were supposed to send pages of information beforehand – why?!), the doctor then acts like a big shot, arrogant even in emails. The treating speech therapist leaves the facility mid-diagnosis (resigned?). Her replacement has no plan. No handover. Nothing. Are we supposed to start all over again?! Communication with the patient is poor. Written documents (reports, etc.) have to be begged for. Steep hierarchies within the facility hinder adequate patient care. As a patient, you feel like a cash cow, just waiting to be milked. Bills are exorbitant compared to the services provided. Not recommended. -1 star would be appropriate. We discontinued treatment. A truly awful experience.

My child was "treated" there, a treatment that consisted solely of talking to us parents at every appointment and trying to sell us things like early intervention programs or psychologists (for the parents), completely unnecessary and without any real benefit. The child was practically ignored. The "doctor" had absolutely no clue about the illness, so she had to research it online, even though she claimed to have patients with the same condition herself. The worst part is that everything is great in person; the child is developing very well, etc. However, the doctor's report, which arrived by mail, tells the complete opposite story, and even worse. What we experienced there is beyond belief in its incompetence and audacity.

The team is incredibly friendly, but the organization is poor. You have to chase after everything yourself multiple times (rehab applications, new prescriptions, new appointments) – even though it was often agreed differently during the doctor's consultation. However, once you finally have an appointment, everything runs smoothly and everyone is very friendly and competent.
