Pedales Griebnitzsee | Bike Rental & Kayak Rental
Pedales at Griebnitzsee Station is not an ordinary rental, but a place where mobility, leisure, and the Potsdam landscape come together seamlessly. When you arrive here, you are not faced with long logistics, but directly at the starting point for a day outdoors: cycling through Potsdam, kayaking on Griebnitzsee, or stand-up paddling on a relatively sheltered body of water. This mix makes the location particularly interesting for people who want to leave Berlin or Potsdam behind for a few hours but are still looking for a conveniently accessible, practical, and versatile base. The station is located in the station building on the lakeside, is well connected via the S7, and combines short distances with an offering that ranges from classic bike rentals to paddle boats and a workshop. Additionally, the surrounding area itself is rich in history, water, and quiet paths. So, whether you are planning a spontaneous outing, a family round, a school class activity, or an active weekend start, you will find a location that seems tailor-made for that purpose. Bike Rental at Griebnitzsee Station
The bike rental is one of the most important components of Pedales in Griebnitzsee. According to the official pages, there are over 150 bikes available on-site, including regular city bikes, tandems, children's bikes, and accessories such as child seats, trailers, and helmets. Additionally, there are e-bikes and other practical models, making the location suitable not only for sporty tours but also for relaxed outings and family rides. Particularly practical is that each bike is equipped with a lock and basket, making everyday use and longer tours more enjoyable. The rental station is thus not limited to a single target group, but covers many needs from spontaneous short trips to planned day trips. The offering is also interesting for groups, as the combination of train connections, easy accessibility, and readily available equipment significantly eases organization. The station is also strongly oriented towards excursion tourism: from here, paths lead to Potsdam, Babelsberg, towards Wannsee, or Berlin Grunewald. Choosing Griebnitzsee as a starting point allows you to experience the region not just as a transit route but as a genuine entry into the landscape. For people who prefer to discover actively rather than just arrive, this is a significant advantage. The station consciously appears calm and functional: not an overloaded recreational area, but a clearly structured place where equipment, maps, and advice come together. This makes the bike rental equally attractive for day visitors, vacationers, and locals. Kayak Rental, Canoe Rental, and SUP Rental Directly at the Lake
If you think of water at Pedales at Griebnitzsee, you are absolutely right, as the paddling area is a core part of the location. Available are single and double kayaks, canoes for several people, and SUP boards. The official rental page lists, among other things, Brio double kayaks, Prijon singles, canoes for three or four people, and stand-up boards; the station overview also emphasizes that paddles and life jackets are always included. This is particularly advantageous for spontaneous outings, as you do not have to think about safety equipment additionally. The process is also practical: boats and boards can be reserved online until 11 PM the day before. If you need more than three boats or boards or want to rent on the same day, you should call the station directly. This shows that the location is well organized for both individual guests and small groups. Clear guidelines apply for usage: at least one person aged 16 or older must be on each boat, and adults should accompany minors on the SUP. The location itself is also very helpful, as Griebnitzsee is considered a good area for SUP because it is relatively sheltered from the wind. At the same time, Pedales points out that the boathouse is located at the stairs above the lake and assistance is provided when carrying. This is honest, practical, and sensible, as direct access to the water is particularly charming but also involves a few steps. Guided paddling tours on request, the weekly Saturday tour from May to September, as well as SUP courses and SUP yoga round out the offering and make the location more than just a pure rental point. Access, Parking, and Opening Hours at Griebnitzsee Station
Access is one of the major advantages of Pedales at Griebnitzsee. The station is located at Rudolf-Breitscheid-Str. 201, 14482 Potsdam, directly in the station building on the lakeside. According to Pedales, the S7 from Berlin and Potsdam runs every ten minutes; additionally, there are regional train connections during peak hours. This combination makes the location equally interesting for Berliners as for Potsdam residents or guests from the surrounding area. If you prefer to come by car, parking is available in front of the station and along the street. The station itself also features bike parking, car parking, and taxi access. For many excursionists, this is an ideal mix: you can arrive by train, spontaneously take a bike or kayak, and start without a major detour. Regarding opening hours, Pedales operates seasonally. For the Griebnitzsee rental station, from Easter Saturday to October 31, it is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6:30 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 7 PM. In winter, it is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. For summer paddling, extended Thursday hours in June, July, and August are also noted. These clear times are particularly helpful for those who want to plan their outing precisely, as they avoid unnecessary waiting times and make booking reliable. Those coming from Berlin can also use the location as a genuine day trip without complicated transfers or parking searches in the city center. This is a key part of the strength of this location: it is quickly accessible, easy to understand, and yet immediately by the water and on the main routes around Potsdam. ([potsdam-per-pedales.de](https://potsdam-per-pedales.de/wir/anfahrt/))
Reservation, Prices, and Practical Booking at the Rental
When it comes to booking, Pedales relies on a straightforward but clearly regulated process. For kayaks, canoes, and SUP boards, online reservation is the preferred solution. Reservations can be made until 11 PM the day before, which is particularly important for weekends and holiday periods, as demand can be high then. If more than three boats or boards are needed or if the rental is to take place on the same day, Pedales recommends calling directly. This combination of digital booking and personal coordination is sensible for a leisure station because it combines flexibility and planning security. Also for bikes, reservation is relevant depending on need: the regular city bikes are usually sufficiently available, while pre-registration is advisable for groups of more than five people or for special models. In terms of pricing, the station operates transparently with hourly and daily rates, for example for the double kayaks or singles, which suits both short trips and longer tours. For everyday use, the notes on equipment are also important: paddles and life jackets are included, and each bike comes with a lock and basket. Additionally, the transparent handling of age regulations in the paddling area increases safety and makes planning easier for families. Therefore, when you approach the station, you not only receive equipment but also a clear structure: when to book, how to pick up, what to take, how to return. This reliability is valuable for people who do not want to spend their day on organizational questions but rather on the actual experience on the bike or on the water. For inquiries regarding tickets, events, or appointments, the correct understanding is therefore important: Pedales is not a classic event hall, but a rental and tour station where booking and scheduling are linked to the respective activity. Bike Workshop, Bike Shop, and Used Offers on Site
Pedales at Griebnitzsee is not only a rental but also a workshop and bike shop. This makes the location particularly interesting for people who not only need a bike for a few hours but are looking for a reliable contact for their mobility in the long term. According to the official workshop page, the bike workshop at Griebnitzsee Station gets bikes running properly again, and if a repair takes longer, a free loan bike is even provided. This point alone is a strong argument for many customers, as it shows that the business is not just sales-oriented but also considers real everyday usability. In the shop, there are used bikes for little money, newly assembled unique pieces, and new bikes. This opens up a range from budget-conscious purchases to the desire for a special bike. The clear opening logic also speaks for the location: the workshop at Griebnitzsee is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. This allows it to be easily integrated into a normal weekday. It is also professionally interesting that Pedales is also strongly anchored in bike service at other locations, such as with the bike station at the main train station and further sales and workshop services. For the position in Griebnitzsee, this means: the place is part of a larger, established mobility concept but remains tailored to the local situation. Those interested in a used bike, a short-term repair, or a practical solution will find here not an anonymous large structure but a place with a craft connection. This relationship between rental, workshop, and shop makes the location useful for commuters, residents, and tourists alike. ([potsdam-per-pedales.de](https://potsdam-per-pedales.de/potsdam-fahrradwerkstatt-fahrradladen/griebnitzsee/))
Guided Tours, Courses, and Excursions around Potsdam
Another strong area of search and use at Pedales is the guided tours. The website emphasizes that guided bike tours through Potsdam have been offered since 1997 and that this is somewhat part of the company's DNA. This long experience is important for guests as it shows that the tours are not seen as a by-product but as a developed part of the offering. This is particularly evident in the Potsdam Royal tour, which starts on Saturdays at 10:30 AM and is described as a four-hour, approximately 20-kilometer tour through castles, parks, and the city center. The Griebnitzsee Stories are designed as a three-hour tour covering about 15 kilometers and focus on the villa colony at Griebnitzsee, renowned architects and residents, UFA locations, and the former border area. Here, the special character of the location becomes apparent: cycling is connected with city history, architecture, and landscape. Additional offerings include the Wannsee bike tour, the audio guide for individual explorations, and various paddling tours. The station overview also mentions guided paddling tours on request and every Saturday at 5 PM from May to September, as well as SUP courses on Thursdays at 5 PM and SUP yoga several times a week. This is particularly interesting for groups, school classes, and excursions, as the station not only provides equipment but also offers real experiential formats. The location is thus suitable for very different users: for people who simply want to rent a bike, as well as for guests who want to learn about Potsdam in depth. The tours are therefore not an extra without reference but a key to the overall profile of Pedales: mobile, cultural, and well-planned. ([potsdam-per-pedales.de](https://potsdam-per-pedales.de/))
Griebnitzsee as a Starting Point for Potsdam, Babelsberg, and Berlin-Wannsee
The location at Griebnitzsee is also strong because it is embedded in a very dense environment both geographically and historically. Pedales describes Griebnitzsee Station as a beautiful gateway to Potsdam and emphasizes that from here you can discover a cultural and historical landscape by bike, kayak, canoe, or SUP that is simultaneously calm, water-rich, and architecturally exciting. Directly in the vicinity are the former UFA studios, villas of significant architects like Mies van der Rohe, and after just a few kilometers, the Glienicke Bridge. This makes the location not only practical but also narratively interesting: those who start here do not simply experience a leisure offering but a route through a region where film history, villa architecture, waterways, and German-German history intersect. Particularly convincing is that the station works for both movement on the water and movement on two wheels. This allows for combined day plans: a bike in the morning, a kayak at noon, an afternoon café stop, or a detour towards Wannsee. The tour tips from Pedales support this logic by making Potsdam, Babelsberg, Grunewald, and Wannsee visible as natural target areas. The location is also described as a quiet starting point for school classes, which can be a real advantage compared to the more central main station. For guests looking for a demanding yet uncomplicated leisure station, this is a strong profile: easily accessible, historically exciting, close to the water, and with an offering that can be flexibly assembled. Pedales at Griebnitzsee thus stands for a very Potsdam-typical mix of nature, history, and active movement. Those specifically looking for this will find a place where the keywords bike rental, kayak rental, SUP, workshop, tours, and access truly complement each other.
We rented 2 city bikes here for the day - decent price (€32 all in), friendly service and the bikes were great quality. We also got a useful map of some local routes. Shop is accessible from inside Griebnitzsee S-bahn station and there's a nice cafe next door too. Had a brilliant day, definitely recommend if you want to get out of the city for a bit!

Went kayaking and recommend. You need to carry the kayak down some stairs to the water and it’s a little heavy, so for some people this can be difficult. It’s also good to make a reservation before going! Overall it’s a good activity, the team didn’t give much instructions but were friendly, and the price is fair
