Neue Plantage 6, 14467 Potsdam, Deutschland
Langer Stall Potsdam | Creative Quarter & Events
The Langer Stall in Potsdam is today one of the most visible examples of how a historical site can transform into a contemporary creative quarter. The location is situated at Neue Plantage in 14467 Potsdam, officially opened on September 4, 2026, and now forms the central building of the new Creative Quarter in the heart of Potsdam. Since 2026, around 25,000 square meters of rental space for cultural, creative, and future uses are being developed across seven buildings; the Langer Stall itself houses around 100 studios and ateliers. This is particularly exciting for visitors because not only is work done here, but also exhibitions, events, workshops, and open neighborhood formats take place. The official planning connects historical urban history, modern architecture, communal workspaces, and a central location between Neuer Markt and Plantage. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/kontakt/))
What is the Langer Stall today?
The current Langer Stall is no longer a classic stable, but a multifunctional building in the Creative Quarter Potsdam. The official neighborhood page describes it as a modern interpretation of the historical Langer Stall with a large, rising roof and the so-called super dormer facing the Plantage. The building has four floors, a total of 8,460 square meters of rental space, and around 1,200 to 2,260 square meters per floor. The ground floor is intended for studios, retail, and uses with external impact, while the upper floors are designated for studio and office uses, and the basement contains almost 1,000 square meters of modern band rehearsal rooms. Additionally, the page emphasizes a large open entrance hall that provides space for exhibitions and events. Thus, the Langer Stall is consciously designed today as an open house: not a closed solitaire, but a place where working, presenting, meeting, and producing come together. This mix makes the place highly relevant for those searching for creative quarters, events, studios, and cooperative uses. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/quartier/langer-stall/))
Particularly important for the perception of the house is the idea of communal use. The Langer Stall cooperative rents a large part of the spaces at reduced prices and operates them independently. The official page mentions 95 small and affordable spaces starting from 15 square meters, which primarily provide a home for solo self-employed individuals, artists, and small creative companies. This is complemented by co-working spaces, meeting rooms, photo and podcast studios, and jointly usable areas such as the neighborhood hall, which opens the quarter to the Plantage. This makes the house not appear as a single office building, but as a productive urban space with many contact points. Therefore, those searching for Langer Stall Potsdam, the cooperative, or for rents and spaces will encounter an offer that is very much focused on collaboration, low-threshold entry, and creative diversity. The official page also notes that the rent-reduced spaces have already been allocated and that only a waiting list is possible. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/quartier/langer-stall/))
Opening, Events, and Current Use
The current search for Langer Stall Potsdam events or Langer Stall Potsdam opening can be clearly answered today: The Creative Quarter Potsdam was officially opened on September 4, 2026. According to the city and state, the first users had already moved in during the spring, the outdoor facilities were completed in the summer, and the first events and conferences had already taken place in the neighborhood hall. A diverse program was announced for the grand opening, aimed at the entire city and making the new location publicly experienceable. This included open studios, an exhibition on the open call for appropriation areas with voting, a design market featuring regional products, workshops and creative sessions, performances and artistic interventions, a creative match, as well as food & drinks. Admission was free. Thus, the Langer Stall is not only a workplace but also a place for public encounters, insights behind the scenes, and formats that culturally enliven the Potsdam Mitte. For SEO searches related to events, programs, and openings, this is a central signal: Here, no static building is being created, but an actively used urban space. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/kreativ-quartier-potsdam-grand-opening-am-4-september-2026))
The usage structure also shows how diverse the offerings in the Langer Stall and the entire quarter are. The official press release from the state of Brandenburg mentions around 25,000 square meters of office, studio, work, and event spaces in seven buildings for the Creative Quarter. In addition to the Langer Stall cooperative, there are other users of the area, such as the Brandenburg Society for Culture and History, the Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung, and TUMO as an extracurricular educational center for youth focusing on digital technologies and design. The location is thus developing into a cluster where art, media, education, and economically oriented creative work coexist. For visitors, this means that events here are often more than just classic stage programs: they can include exhibitions, open workshops, creative production spaces, or dialogue formats. So, those searching for programs, events, or openings will find in the Langer Stall a place that consciously positions itself between production and presentation, thereby acquiring a very urban, contemporary character. Address, Directions, and Parking at the Langer Stall
For the search for the address of the Langer Stall, the official contact page of the Creative Quarter is the most important source. There, the address of the quarter is given as Neue Plantage, 14467 Potsdam; numerous current users additionally provide the exact address Neue Plantage 6, 14467 Potsdam. This also aligns with other official and semi-official sources that locate the site in the Potsdam Mitte. The location is very central: the quarter lies between Neuer Markt, Neue Plantage, and Werner-Seelenbinder-Straße, right in the middle of a historical urban area that has been extensively reorganized in recent years. Those visiting the Langer Stall are thus not moving in a peripheral event hall but in an inner-city development area with a high pedestrian and stay-related reference. This central location is an important part of the relevance for search queries like Langer Stall Potsdam address or Creative Quarter Langer Stall. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/kontakt/))
Regarding parking and directions, it is worth looking at the city's live service. The city of Potsdam refers to the platform Mobil in Potsdam for current construction sites, traffic conditions, parking for cars and buses, prices, payment options, park & ride offers, the commuter network, bike and pedestrian paths, public transport connections, and taxi stops. This is particularly practical for the Langer Stall because the official pages of the quarter mainly mention the address and location but do not provide a separate parking or travel logic as visitor information. Therefore, those searching for parking at the Langer Stall should check the live data from the city shortly before their visit, especially if events, construction sites, or city traffic are relevant. For the search intent, it is important: The official solution is not a single parking garage at the house, but the municipal mobility service with current data on arrival. This way, the visit remains planable without relying on outdated information. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/content/anreise?utm_source=openai))
Langer Stall Potsdam Cooperative, Rentals & Spaces
The search for Langer Stall Potsdam cooperative or Langer Stall Potsdam rental leads directly to the special operator and rental model of the quarter. The Langer Stall cooperative rents around 5,000 square meters at reduced prices and operates the spaces independently. The official page describes this as a communal and collaborative environment that promotes innovation, art, and entrepreneurship. The spaces are intentionally small and flexible: 95 affordable units starting from 15 square meters create room for solo self-employed individuals, small creative companies, and project-oriented teams. Additionally, there are jointly usable areas, co-working, meeting rooms, as well as photo and podcast studios. For those looking for Langer Stall cooperative, this aspect is crucial: the building is not just a physical structure but a self-organized production community with a long-term perspective. At the same time, the official page makes it clear that the rent-reduced spaces have already been allocated and that only a waiting list exists. Therefore, those wanting to move in actively must prepare for availability and ranking. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/quartier/langer-stall/))
The usage logic of the house is very multifaceted and goes far beyond classic office rentals. According to the neighborhood page, the ground floor is intended for studios, retail, and uses with external impact, which is particularly important for audience-oriented concepts. The upper floors feature studio and office uses, meaning spaces for focused work, administration, production, and development. The basement houses modern band rehearsal rooms on almost 1,000 square meters, which acoustically and culturally expand the place towards music production. At the same time, the official space overview shows that there are larger and smaller units in the house, including event halls, exhibitions, showrooms, gastronomy, and shops. This mix explains why the Creative Quarter is relevant for different search queries: it is not just an office building but a place with workshop character, public radiance, and a clear thematic identity. Therefore, those searching online for rentals, cooperatives, spaces, or the cooperative model will encounter a project that strongly focuses on local creative economy and communal self-management. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/quartier/langer-stall/))
Another important point is the flexibility of the location. The official page lists different space formats from small individual rooms to large event halls, showing that the house is designed for various user profiles. This is attractive for searching creatives because it allows for various business models: studio work, gallery, showroom, office, rehearsal, workshop, or event operation. At the same time, the cooperative anchors the house in a communal structure that does not rely on rapid displacement but on usage retention and neighborhood. In public perception, this is a crucial added value of the Langer Stall: the project is intended not only to provide space but also to create a social infrastructure for the creative scene in Potsdam. The fact that the spaces are already largely allocated further underscores the high demand for such places in the city center. For SEO logic, this means: Langer Stall Potsdam rental is indeed a highly searched term, but the current status is primarily characterized by waiting lists, price binding, and long-term usage. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/quartier/langer-stall/))
History and Architecture of the Langer Stall
Historically, the Langer Stall is one of the most exciting places in Potsdam. The city describes it as a single-story riding and drill house built in 1734 according to plans by Pierre des Gayette under Frederick William I, featuring a steep gable roof. The building was approximately 170 meters long in its length extension and appeared as a prominent point in the Potsdam urban landscape due to its dimensions. Despite its name, the Langer Stall served the garrison and not the accommodation of horses. Particularly noteworthy was the hanging structure stretched across the entire depth of the building, which allowed for a large continuous area without supports. Later, the southern head building was constructed as a representative portal building modeled after Palladio's loggia in the Valmarana garden in Vicenza. This combination of military function, technical sophistication, and classicist-inspired representation makes the place architecturally valuable to this day. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/der-lange-stall))
The further history of the quarter shows how significantly Potsdam's center has changed over the centuries. The Plantage was transformed into a generous green space according to plans by Peter Joseph Lenné in 1850, framed by a cross of paths and linden trees. After the destruction of World War II, the garrison church, city canal, and other parts of the historical structure were massively reshaped; in the vicinity, a data center and main fire station were established. The official city page emphasizes that the Langer Stall was destroyed in 1945 and only the southern portal part remained. For the redevelopment of the property along the Plantage, an urban planning and landscape planning ideas competition was announced in 2012, from which the design by Stephan Höhne emerged as the winner. This planning phase was important because it paved the way for today's Creative Quarter. The place was not simply rebuilt but rethought in a long process of history, competition, and urban planning debate. ([potsdamermitte.de](https://potsdamermitte.de/quartier-neuer-markt-plantage))
The overarching quarter development also shows the significance of the location. The area between Plantage and Neuer Markt is one of the oldest parts of Potsdam's city center and has historically been characterized by court and military uses. After the turn of the millennium, the areas were gradually reorganized, and with the development of the Creative Quarter, a new building block emerged within Potsdam Mitte. The official planning documents describe the area as historically significant and at the same time as one of the few large space potentials in the city center. Precisely for this reason, the development has been controversially discussed for many years. Today, it can be recognized from a distance that the Langer Stall forms the bridge between past and present: it recalls the old military Potsdam, is architecturally related to the historical cubature, and simultaneously serves as a contemporary location for creative work. This dual significance makes it relevant for history, architectural interest, and urban development alike. ([potsdamermitte.de](https://potsdamermitte.de/wettbewerb-langer-stall))
Photos, Images, and Special Impressions
Those searching for Langer Stall photos or images of Langer Stall will find plenty of visual material and visualizations on the official pages. The neighborhood page shows views of the building, interiors, examples of spaces, floor plans, and graphic representations of the usage logic. The city of Potsdam and the Brandenburg Ministry of Science also publish official images and press materials for the opening of the Creative Quarter. For the search intent for photos, this is particularly valuable because the place has a very strong visual impact: the large rising roof with the super dormer, the open entrance hall, the mixed uses, and the location to the Plantage create a clear recognition value. Additionally, an Open Call for Urban Art is currently underway in Potsdam, where gable walls, entrances, passages, and window fronts are to be creatively designed. This call shows that the visual character of the house is not finished but continues to be developed. The interest in images is therefore not only nostalgic but also current: the Langer Stall is a place that remains visible, walkable, and shapeable. ([kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de](https://kreativ-quartier-potsdam.de/quartier/langer-stall/))
Especially the visual tension between history and the present makes the quarter attractive. On one side stands the memory of the old drill house and the history of the Potsdam garrison, while on the other side stand modern working worlds, open meeting points, and experimental creative uses. The official neighborhood page speaks of a lively and collaborative environment; the city describes the area as a new location for cultural and creative industries, companies, and future-oriented work. It fits that the first public opening was not designed as a strictly formal event but as a city festival with open studios, exhibitions, design markets, workshops, and performances. Therefore, those searching for images should not only think of architecture but also of atmosphere, program, and diversity of use. The Langer Stall is today a place where the historical potential of Potsdam Mitte visibly connects with contemporary forms of work and culture. This mix explains why search terms like photos, images, creative quarter, and events are so closely related here.
Now that the Creative Quarter has found its home in the dimensions of the former Long Stall, it would be desirable for the portal to shine again in its old glory. The current appearance is certainly pathetic!

Potsdam is so rich in monuments that one quickly overlooks the portal of the Long Stall - one can only hope that the open space created by the war destruction of the building behind it will be rebuilt in style...

The portal of the Long Stall was built on the orders of the Prussian King Frederick II by his architect Georg Christian Unger. The facade ornaments were contributed by the sculptor Sartori. All three mentioned individuals were Freemasons. G. C. Unger and C. P. G. Sartori belonged to the still existing Freemason lodge "Minerva".
