Nice spot for a short walk, there is an information board, but best check their website and visit on one of their open days.

Today we visited Stern Hunting Lodge, which unfortunately is only open on certain days throughout the year. The opening is organized by the Friends of Stern Hunting Lodge Association. The association also provided a lovely lady for a short, interesting tour. In addition, there was homemade cake and coffee in the garden, free of charge. We were pleasantly surprised. It will be open again next Saturday, September 16th. It's well worth a visit.

The association maintains the castle very well, and the members are very friendly and knowledgeable. They answer many questions. Events are very sociable.

Stern Hunting Lodge is tucked away in a quiet spot near the Gaußstraße tram stop. It enjoys an idyllic location on the edge of a small park. A visitor would hardly expect to find such a beautiful and well-preserved castle in a high-rise housing estate. Those who stumble upon this place are rewarded with a wonderful atmosphere and unique impressions and plays of color.

Stern Hunting Lodge, which Frederick William I, the Soldier King, had built from the ground up between 1730 and 1732—the only castle he commissioned, modeled after Dutch castles—could easily be mistaken for a Dutch Quarter in Potsdam's city center. Here, Frederick William I once indulged his passion for driven hunts (par force hunting). Next door, you can see the steward's house, which once housed the administrators, as well as a historic bakehouse oven. After the destruction of the City Palace, Stern Hunting Lodge is the oldest surviving castle in Potsdam. Nearby, vehicles whiz by on the A115 motorway, and in the background, you can see the high-rise buildings of a residential complex. It takes a bit of imagination to picture the scene in Frederick William I's time, but it is nonetheless a very beautiful and special place. The old saying "small but perfectly formed" certainly applies to the lodge itself. With that in mind: Enjoy your visit to Stern Hunting Lodge!
