Forum Democracy: Church, Faith, and Social Cohesion in Brandenburg
When people talk about the future of their community, a special space for reflection, dialogue, and new perspectives emerges. The Forum Democracy in the Brandenburg State Parliament invites you to consider the role of the church in a secular and diverse society together.
Church as a Place of Encounter
Churches are part of the social and cultural life in Brandenburg. Especially in rural areas, they often serve more than just as places of worship: they shape the appearance and cultural identity, create spaces for encounter and engagement, and connect people across religious affiliations.
Panel Discussion with Voices from Church and Society
The focus is on the question of what significance the church will have for social life in Brandenburg in the future. The discussion takes the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Protestant Church Agreement Brandenburg as a historical starting point while also looking at the present and future.
The panel includes Dr. Christian Stäblein, Bishop of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia, Dr. Arnd Franke, Provost in Potsdam and representative of the Archbishop for the Brandenburg part of the Archdiocese of Berlin, Markus Möller, President of the Constitutional Court of the State of Brandenburg, Helene Braun, Jewish theologian and Rabbi in training at the Abraham Geiger College in Potsdam, as well as Juliane Felsch-Grunow, Director of Church Music in Rheinsberg. The evening will be moderated by the Parliament President Prof. Dr. Ulrike Liedtke.
Faith, Democracy, and Responsibility
The forum connects theological reflection with socio-political exchange. Central questions revolve around the contribution of the church and religious communities to social cohesion, democratic culture, and a vibrant civil society. Visitors will experience a religious encounter of open conversation, characterized by attentiveness, responsibility, and spiritual community.
Participation in the Plenary Hall of the Landtag
The event begins on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Plenary Hall of the Brandenburg State Parliament. The interested public and media representatives are invited. Conclusion
The Forum Democracy opens a dignified space for questions of faith, social responsibility, and interreligious dialogue. Those who want to consider the future of church life in Brandenburg and experience different perspectives from church, law, theology, and culture will find here an inspiring evening of exchange. Experience the discussion live in Potsdam and contribute your own perspective to the democratic dialogue.
